Summary
The responsibility for coaching the West Virginia football team in 1904 fell to Oberlin College graduate Anthony Chez, who previously coached at Wabash, DePauw and Cincinnati prior to his appointment by University President Daniel Boardman Purinton to oversee the entire athletic program. Under Chez, WVU played a much more ambitious schedule that included road trips to Penn State, Michigan and Pitt which resulted in significant blowout losses.
